One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
Mission
The mission of the Stanley Jones School/Alice Jamieson Girls Academy council is to provide an opportunity for meaningful family involvement in school decisions. The council is a forum for parents and guardians to learn about how to partner in their child’s education. We provide a safe and caring environment for parents and guardians to engage in discussion on ways to support their children as learners, and to celebrate the work being done by school staff and administration. By fostering a strong relationship between the school and its families, we endeavour to set an example for the children in our school to become leaders in their classrooms and in their community.
Goals of our Council
- To increase parent engagement across both programs on council and in all facets of school life.
- To improve communication between the school and its families.
- To create and foster a strong school identity.
Attendance at school council meetings is the best way to stay informed on school developments. Every parent/guardian with a child in this school is automatically a member of school council and can participate in various ways to support our school community.
