Volunteers are an integral part of life at Stanley Jones School and Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy. Volunteers are needed:

  • to support off campus field trips
  • to give presentations on topics that you are very knowledgeable about (i.e. a geologist - sharing information on rocks for science discovery),
  • to help at school events (i.e. cooking with students, school dances, etc.),
  • to assist students with their learning (i.e. reading with students, homework help, etc.)

Anyone who has time to enrich our students’ learning can volunteer. All volunteers must first complete a security check through the Calgary Police Service before they can help out at the school.  To begin the volunteer clearance process, please ask at our main office or check the school webpage for more details. When you do volunteer – please sign in at the main office and wear a visitor tag.

If you are not able to volunteer during the school day, why not volunteer to be part of our school council.

Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Casinos

Thank you to all the parents and other family and friends who have volunteered at previous Stanley Jones and Alice Jamieson Girls’ Academy casinos. We have received notification of the next casino dates and are already recruiting volunteers.

Every 18 months, our school is provided the opportunity to hold a charitable gaming event which allows us to raise up to $150,000 for the school.  Our next events are scheduled for February 12 & 13, 2025 (AJA) and May 17 & 18, 2025 (SJ) at Cowboys Casino.  To hold such an event, we require approximately 42 volunteers to take on various shifts lasting from 4 to 8 hours throughout the 2-day casino event. The casino event provides our largest source of funding, which directly benefits the students in many ways such as in-school residencies (dance, music, art), field trips, purchasing new technology, classroom learning materials and science equipment, and so much more!

Please email ajafundraising@gmail.com or stanleyjonesfundraising@gmail.com
for more information or to sign up to volunteer.

We hope that many of our families will be able to generously donate their time to help our school!

Volunteer With Us

We welcome volunteers in the classroom, on field trips and with certain tasks at school or at home. Certain activities or field trips would not be possible without the active participation of our volunteers. Contact us about ways you can volunteer with our school.

(Please note, guest speakers or visitors to the school, and parents/guardians assisting their own child only are not considered to be volunteers and do not require a police information check.)

Volunteer Security Clearance Process

Step 1

Go to MyCBE and click on the "Online forms and School Registration" tab and complete the volunteer registration 2025-26 form.

School administrators will verify your identity and register you in the CBE volunteer database. The school office will provide you with a letter enabling you to obtain a police information check from the Calgary Police Service (CPS).

Note: prospective volunteers must reside in Canada for a full year before registering. Police clearances from countries other than Canada are not accepted.

Step 2

Visit the CPS online system, electronic Police Information Check (ePIC), to obtain your police check using your CBE volunteer letter.

Volunteers should wait to submit their request until they receive an email from Calgary Police Service – Record Check inviting them to apply for their Police Information Check with VS for Volunteer. This will ensure the voucher is ready to be redeemed by the volunteer.

Voucher costs are covered for online applications only. If a volunteer applies to Calgary Police Service in-person with the e-Pic letter given them from their school, the $21.25 application fee will apply.

If a volunteer submits their own payment, there is no option for a refund. There is no refund option for volunteers who have previously submitted applications.

If you are unable to complete the process online, you may visit a police information check location instead.

Step 3

Once you have received your clearance document from CPS you will need to share it with the school in-person or by email.

Volunteering for an Off-Site Activity

If you want to volunteer for an off-site activity, please keep in mind:

  • Volunteers on an activity are considered representatives of the Calgary Board of Education and are subject to the same expectations as staff
  • Volunteers are subject to the requirements of CBE Administrative Regulation 5003 – Volunteers, which includes an application and a police security screening check
  • Volunteers are covered by the CBE’s liability insurance policy while performing their assigned duties
  • Volunteers are covered by WCB while performing their duties
  • Volunteers receive direction from and are accountable to the teacher-in-charge

Annual Volunteer Registration

Each school year you must complete the CBE volunteer registration form. By completing the form, you agree to abide by the conditions that protect the safety, confidentiality and working environment of our schools. You also make a signed declaration with regard to criminal charges.
